A colleague and myself participated in a design competition sponsored by Pacificorp and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). In the design competition, we were to submit a training plan for a fake regional hospital. The goal of the training was to prepare hospital employees for an impromptu site visit by an accrediting organization. To respond to the varying needs of hospital employees, my colleague and I opted to use an adaptive and competency-based training approach (partnering with Learning Objects, Inc.) As a result of our proposal, we were finalists in the competition.
